A dental implant is an artificial root made of titanium that replaces the missing or severely damaged tooth root.
The implant is the support that makes it possible to anchor the denture that replaces your tooth. The titanium implants can grow together with your bone, this phenomenon is called osseointegration.
The bone cells don't recognize the titanium as foreign and heal in contact with the titanium implant. Quality and traceability are two major elements of the implants, made of 100% titanium, that Dr Luc chooses.
The practice places implants that are chosen among Swiss, Swedish, and American leaders who have a more than 30 years' experience and know-how.
After the dental and clinical examination and the jaw impression-taking, the placement can be one-stage or two-stage:
The implant is inserted and a temporary abutment is attached to it. A tooth or a temporary device is placed and it is left to heal for a maximum of three months for the lower jaw and six months for the upper jaw.
Once the implant is anchored to the bone, the temporary abutment is replaced by the final one. The crown, the bridge or the denture are realized with a special care for the hue that must perfectly match the natural teeth. After fixing it on the implants one or two follow-up visits are enough to check your satisfaction with your new teeth.
The implant is first inserted then covered by the gum. After total healing, a small gum incision is necessary to give access to the abutment that will be attached to the implant. Please note that sometimes the implant can be loaded immediately, depending on the bone quality.
|The implant is inserted in the jaw. The healthy teeth are not impacted.||The abutments are attached to the implants; they will support the denture.||The new tooth is placed with a perfectly natural result.|
|The realization of a bridge requires 2 to 4 implants. The adjacent teeth are not impacted.||The abutments are attached to the implants; they will support the denture.||This type of prosthesis offers a good resistance to the chewing forces that are applied by the molars, just like real teeth.|
|Several implants are needed to place a full fixed prosthesis.||They also contribute to ensuring a good bone level.||Once inserted, you can eat and laugh again without fearing to lose your denture.|
|If you have a removable prosthesis, 2 implants can be inserted that will allow for a better stability of your device.||In that case, ball abutments or a bar linking the two abutments are used. The removable prosthesis has a fixture device and can be fitted to the balls or the bar.|
Provided that the pre-implant diagnosis is positive, the immediate activation is a technique that makes it possible to insert the implant and to place the fixed prosthesis in one single day.
This process enables the patient to leave the dental practice within the day with a reliable and durable bridge. Practically, in the same day, the patient undergoes a surgery of dental removal followed by the insertion of inclined posterior implants.
These implants allow for a perfect prosthetic support for a bridge made of chemo-polymerizable resin injected under vacuum that will be realized and then placed into the mouth only a few hours after the surgery.
The prosthesis on implants are more comfortable and discreet than the removable prosthesis; moreover they preserve the jaw bone and keep the existing teeth healthy. Indeed, when one or more teeth are missing, the jaw bone is no longer stimulated and gradually reduces.
Therefore, compared to a removable prosthesis, the implant prosthesis provides a better comfort, a better functionality or even, compared to a full removable prosthesis, stability and a normal chewing, as well as a belonging feeling.
Contrary to the implant, a bridge placement (kind of "bridge" between two teeth) requires that the healthy adjacent teeth be carved to be used as a support.
